This summer has been about gardening and cooking. We've been digging through old cookbooks and making cold salads and pies. Last week we tried a black bean, rice, and citrus salad from Simon's Moosewood Cookbook. And after drooling over the photographs in the Smitten Kitchen cookbook, I finally tried out the sweet cherry galette. It was delicious and fun to make. I couldn't find that recipe online to share with you, but I did find this sweet cherry pie that I might have to make this weekend. We've been using the heck out of our new ice pop molds! I made cantaloupe, mint and lime pops! Our little garden is happy and producing nicely for us. We've got eggplant, bush beans, peppers and tomatoes. I love this pink coreospis and I planted those marigolds from last year's seed to ward off hornworms and other greedy insects from our tomato plants.
