I've been working on a series of memory paintings. Mostly of my morning walks or runs. I'm using 5 x 5 inch gessoboards and a limited palette of white, cad yellow, venetian red, and turquoise blue. It's been a fun way to explore a limited palette and I'm enjoying my quirky perspectives and looseness. It's also such a nice way to diary the day. Like seeing these sandhill cranes on a bike ride. Here's my sketch that I based the painting on. Thinking of different perspectives and drawing this one of me and Rosie from a bird's eye view.
Remembering this little dog who wanted to say hello on my run, but I was trying desperately to make it up this hill and didn't want to stop the momentum!
I'm patting myself on the back for working in my sketchbook a lot this month. I started using these Talen sketchbooks and I love the creamy colored paper and the price! Plus they take paint really well so I can mix up my mediums without worry. I like having a large one and a small one going at once.
Another new thing this month has been subscribing to Emma Carlisle's Patreon sessions. I never thought I'd enjoy drawing images someone else picked out, or doing zoom calls while drawing, but it has seriously been the most fun and a real inspiration to my art practice. These are from a session about rivers and Emma's dog Gizmo was in one of the shots. :) The drawing sessions are timed anywhere from 1 minute to 10 minutes. Here's a painting I started based on the above sketch.
This session was based on photographs of Emma's mom picking tomatoes.
Though I could work in my sketchbooks all day long, I'm also trying to divide some time to finished pieces. It's fun seeing how the play in my sketchbook is setting me up for success in my finished work. I'm loving the playfulness of these new pieces. Here's a peek at what's in the works:
Thanks for reading along and supporting my art!

Just wanted to say how charming your sketches are. I simply love your playful sense of color. And the simplicity of your subject matter. Of course I miss your fabrics but your art work shines … regardless of medium. Thanks for sharing Sara
